Common actions
- Add a date with Add date.
- Open the three-dot button on a date to edit or remove it.
- Open Settings to change the greeting name, palette, or typeface.
- Use Settings → Categories → Manage categories to create, rename, recolor, or remove a category. Removing a category keeps its dates and makes them uncategorized.
- Choose an optional category in the date editor. Select Every year under Repeats for a birthday or anniversary.
- Enable Focused view in Settings to show one category separately. It starts hidden; hide it again with the panel’s × button or the Settings switch. All dates remain in the general view.
- Use Settings → Backup → Export to save a JSON backup.
- Use Import to preview a backup before merging it or replacing local records.
Troubleshooting
My dates disappeared
Confirm that Day Counter is still installed and enabled in the same Chrome profile. If you have a JSON backup, import it and review the preview before choosing Merge or Replace.
A countdown looks one day off
Confirm the target date in Edit. Day Counter compares local calendar dates rather than elapsed hours, so daylight-saving changes should not alter the result.
The extension cannot import my file
Day Counter accepts its versioned JSON backup format up to 5 MB. It rejects malformed, unsupported, or duplicate records before changing local data.
How do yearly dates work?
Yearly dates show their next occurrence, including TODAY on the occurrence date. A February 29 date uses February 28 in non-leap years and returns to February 29 in leap years. The originally entered date is preserved.
